DUNN COUNTY, Wis. -- A woman and her 23-month-old daughter are safe after their vehicle veered off the road and crashed into an icy river.
Police say the incident happened around 5:39 Sunday morning when the woman fell asleep behind the wheel as she was driving westbound on I-94 in Dunn County.
Authorities say the driver, Daniella L. Overett, 21, of Elko, Minn. woke up when her vehicle entered the median just before the Red Cedar River.
The vehicle then struck the side of the eastbound bridge and traveled over the embankment before landing on the ice in the Red Cedar River.
The vehicle was partially submerged and Overett was able to get out with her young daughter.
Overett and her daughter were not injured in the crash.
