DECATUR, Texas - Texas authorities confirm that the man who died after a shootout there is a Colorado parolee now being investigated in the death of Colorado's prisons chief.

Evan Ebel, 28, was gravely wounded during an exchange of gunfire with officers after yesterday's chase and died Friday morning.

The Denver Post reports that Ebel was in a white supremacist prison gang. It's described as one of the most vicious groups of its kind operating in the nation's prisons. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, it has grown into a sophisticated criminal enterprise where members extort money from fellow prisoners. Those who are released from prison are expected to make money to support those still inside.

The car Ebel was driving matched the description of a car that was spotted outside the home of Colorado prisons chief Tom Clements just before he was fatally shot while answering his front door Tuesday evening.

Police say Ebel is a suspect in Sunday's killing of Nathan Leon, a Denver pizza delivery man.
