GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The head of economic development groups in Grand Forks has stepped down from leadership positions after his controversial handling of a company's loan request.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that Doug Christensen resigned as president of the local Jobs Development Authority, as chairman of its Growth Fund Committee and as chairman of the City Council's Finance and Urban Development Committee.
Duluth, Minn.-based Cirrus Aircraft recently requested a $950,000 loan as part of a larger plan to expand its production facility in Grand Forks. Christensen questioned the company's ability to repay the city.
He later apologized, and the Growth Fund Committee agreed to the loan. Christensen will remain on the City Council and continue to serve as its vice president.
