DES MOINES, Iowa - The city of Des Moines officially welcomed its newest sports franchise to the city on Monday, unveiling the team's new website and team jersey.
The Iowa Wild held their first news conference, since the Minnesota Wild announced that it is moving its developmental minor league team from the Houston to Des Moines.
"This is a Midwestern team and the fact we're now in Des Moines and changed the name to the Wild, we really want to use the synergies of the brand, the Minnesota Wild," said Wild owner Craig Leipold said.
The change takes effect next season and it's fair to say the decision is about more than just adding to the brand. The quick trip to Des Moines offers a ton of convenience.
"We are going to be able to scout our players and work with them," said Leipold.
The Iowa Wild will play at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, beginning in the 2013-14 AHL season.
