FARIBAULT, Minn. - A Faribault woman is recovering from wounds both seen and unseen after her fiancé and father of her two children stabbed her 30-40 times.
"It felt like I was in a movie," said LaLonnie Moorman. "I've been with him for six years and never thought any of this would happen."
Shane Wilson, 27, sits in a Rice County jail accused of attempted murder in the first degree after he attacked Moorman on April 20. The family had planned on a Saturday drive, but when Moorman went inside their Faribault home to look for a cell phone, she says Wilson lunged at her with a knife.
"I turned to look under the couch and that's when he attacked me," says Moorman. "He stabbed me and tried to cut my throat."
The couple's 5-year-old then walked into the room. Motivated by her children, Moorman fought off Wilson and put her children in the car. Bloody and beaten, she drove to the police station to get help.
"I tried calling 911 but my phone was covered in blood," she recalls. "Had it not been for the people who saw me I may have bled to death."
Moorman sustained multiple stab wounds, a concussion, and a punctured lung. She is now staying with family and recovering from her injuries.
"I need to stay strong for my kids," says Moorman. "As a mother you wish they wouldn't have seen that, but now every step I take is for them."
A Facebook page has been set up by friends and family to help support Lalonnie and her children.
