Pickup truck Young stole and used in high-speed chase
BARRON COUNTY, Wis. - A manhunt continues for a Waupun cop turned fugitive.
Bradley Young is sought for allegedly carrying out a burglary at a Green Lake restaurant and stealing a pickup truck.
He is to be considered armed and dangerous. As of Tuesday morning police believe he may have stolen a second vehicle, a 1996 Nissan Maxima, white in color, with Wisconsin license plate 480HGK.
According to Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald, Young has been eluding officers since early Monday, when they responded to a burglary call at Walkers Kollerville Restaurant at 1:03 a.m. He says the officer led authorities on a high-speed chase that ended when Young took off on foot into the wooded area near 23rd Avenue and 13th Street west of Rice Lake.
Fitzgerald tells KARE 11's Boua Xiong that they have one crew still searching for Young but they still have no idea of his motive for the crime spree or where he plans to go.
They believe Young may still be in the area but his police training has him one step ahead of those searching for him.
"Most excitement we've ever seen, I don't know, it's scary you don't expect this out here," said Maria Spenle, who lives in the area where the suspect took off on foot.
Spenle spent the night hunkered down in her rural Barron County home as deputies combed her yard, the woods nearby and everywhere in between, searching for Young.
"We have not only a large thick forest that we're in right now currently searching, we have a ravine, we have some culverts that are larger culverts that people can hide in," said Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald.
Deputies, local police officers, the SWAT team and even a plane were called in to help with the search.
Fitzgerald says some homes within a one-square mile radius were evacuated. The intersection at 23rd Avenue and 13th Street were blocked off until late Monday night as police combed the area, leaving no spot unturned.
"It's just kind of scary seeing the neighbors, they were forced out of the barn because they didn't know what was going on and they told them to come down the road and come out with their hands up," said Spenle.
Spenle and her family live close to the spot where Young ditched the truck he was driving but never actually saw the suspect.
"He ditched his truck at a dead end here and we're pretty sure he's going north," Spenle said.
The search continues - meanwhile police are telling people with a home in the area to keep their doors locked. Police also say should anyone see or hear anything suspicious to call 911.
Bradley Young is described as 6 feet 5 inches tall, 260 pounds with blonde hair and green eyes. When last seen he was dressed in all camouflage.
