AVON, Minn. - Traffic is open on Interstate Highway 94 at Avon after being shut down for more than two hours.
At 4:30 a.m. a crash involving several vehicles was reported, Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner said. The State Patrol and Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded.
During the investigation an eastbound semi lost control and struck a Stearns County squad that was parked on the shoulder of the road with its emergency lights activated, Sanner said.
Deputy Steve Mathews was seated in the vehicle at the time. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital where he was treated and released.
The semi jackknifed and became tangled in the cable barrier, blocking the eastbound traffic lane, according to the State Patrol.
The semi driver was Thomas P. Harrington, 50, of North St. Paul. He was not injured.
