DULUTH, Minn. - The Duluth Federal Prison Camp has lost possibly its most famous resident. Denny Hecker has been moved to other facilities in other states. In fact, Hecker has spent time in three prisons in three states since Monday.
The fallen auto mogul had been serving his 10-year sentence for bankruptcy fraud and conspiracy at the Duluth prison. Sometime mid-week, Hecker was moved to a medium security facility in Oxford, Wisconsin, about 60 miles north of Madison. Then, on Thursday, he was transferred to a medium security prison in Terre Haute, Indiana.
There is no official word on why Hecker lost the "softer" incarceration at the Duluth camp. Former Hecker criminal attorneys tell KARE 11 they believe he violated some prison rule or rules, or was somehow regarded as more of a flight risk.
It is also not known if Hecker's tour of federal prisons is over. Former Hecker attorney Brian Toder of Minneapolis said Hecker might be undergoing "diesel therapy," meaning federal authorities want some kind of cooperation from Hecker and will keep him on the move until they are satisfied.
Prison authorities can move Hecker as they wish and, for security reasons, do not reveal such moves until they are completed.
