MINNEAPOLIS - While gas prices across the country rise according to prognostications, Minnesota is bucking the national trend.

TwinCitiesGasPrices.com says that average retail gasoline prices in Twin Cities have fallen 5.1 cents per gallon over the past week, averaging $3.39 per gallon Sunday.

That compares with national fuel prices that have increased 3.3 cents per gallon in the last week to reach $3.47 per gallon.

Including Sunday's changes, prices are 21.3 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago, and 7.1 cents per gallon higher than in January. The national average has increased 12.3 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 34.8 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

"Retail gasoline prices have continued to slowly rise across a majority of the United States," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "With the exception of one state, Wyoming, all states are seeing their gasoline prices averaging over $3 per gallon again, with some of the largest cities, New York and Los Angeles, closing in on $4 per gallon," DeHaan said.

Forecasts call for fuel prices in the Twin Cities to reach the $4 per gallon mark by this summer.
