WELLS, Minn. - A retired veteran from Wells has claimed a winning lottery ticket worth nearly $1.3 million.

Benjamin Ramos Sr. matched all five numbers for the Feb. 10 drawing of Gopher 5.

Ramos says he normally doesn't play that game but his ex-wife called and told him the jackpot was getting big. He says he thinks Lady Luck was tired of seeing him lose.

Gopher 5 drawings are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Players pick five numbers from 1 to 47 for a chance to win a jackpot of at least $100,000.

The lottery says it's the second jackpot over $1 million in less than two months.

He bought the ticket from Casey's General Store in Wells and the owners will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
