MINNETONKA, Minn. - Longtime WCCO-AM personality Dark Star, whose real name was George Chapple, was found dead at his home Friday afternoon.
Chapple was on WCCO-AM for 25 years before leaving in the radio station in 2010. He hosted "Sports Night with Dark Star" on WCCO.
Chapple most recently appeared on-air for KFAN-FM and was still working at Canterbury Park, according to officials with Clear Channel and the horse racing track.
"He's made a lot of friends over at Canterbury," Canterbury Park spokesperson Jeff Maday told KARE 11. Maday also said Chapple was supposed to be on the air at KFAN Friday afternoon but did not show up.
The Hennepin County sheriff's office and Minnetonka Police are currently investigating at Star's residence.
Chapple arrived in the Twin Cities in 1980 and worked as a substitute host at KSTP and handicapped horses for the St. Paul Pioneer Press before landing a job filing horse-racing reports from Canterbury Park for WCCO in 1985.
WCCO says Chapple was 66 years old.
The cause of death is not yet known.
