MINNEAPOLIS - Four people are recovering from gunshot wounds following an argument in downtown Minneapolis near a popular nightclub early Monday.

Among those injured was one of the alleged gunman.

Police say two men armed with guns opened fire after arguing near the Atrium Apartments around 2 a.m., injuring three people standing outside the Gay 90's.

"Officers were in the area at the time, they actually saw and heard the shootings, they chased two suspects," Minneapolis Police Chief of Patrol Kris Arneson told reporters. "Two suspects were apprehended at different locations."

Arneson says one of the suspects was shot by a police officer after threatening him with a gun near 2nd and Washington. Those injuries are said to be  non-life threatening. The other man was taken into custody without incident in an alley at 214 1st Avenue North.

The incident happened at bar closing, with the streets of downtown Minneapolis filled with people. It is just the latest in a series of violent incidents that have some concerned about the safety of going downtown. Arneson insists there is no reason to avoid the area.

"I just want to make a very strong statement that downtown is a very safe place to come to during the day or in the evening. Unfortunately this was at bar closing, we had a lot of people in the street," she said.

All three people shot while standing outside the Gay 90's are expected to fully recover.
