Minnesota's Jamie Cheever comes up short in 3000M steeplechase

EUGENE, Ore. - Emma Coburn won her second straight national title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday, earning her a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.

Coburn finished in 9 minutes, 32.78 seconds at the U.S. track trials at Hayward Field.

Runner-up Bridget Franek finished in 9:35.62, and Shalaya Kipp was third in 9:35.73 for the other two spots on the team for the London Games.

Both Coburn and Kipp ran at Colorado. Coburn won the NCAA title in the steeplechase in 2011, and Kipp won it this month.

Cheever finished 12th with a time of 9:56.51.
