MANKATO, Minn. - 46-year-old Todd Hoffner left the Blue Earth County Jail Wednesday evening after posting bail charged with two felony child pornography counts.

The head football coach at Minnesota State University Mankato is on leave pending a criminal and campus investigation, but it turns out Mankato isn't the only university looking into his past.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire started an inquiry into his employment Tuesday.

"We don't have any indication there was that type of activity here, but in light of the nature of the allegations we thought it would be a good idea to check and see," said Teresa O'Halloran who oversees the university's human resources department.

Hoffner was the head football coach at UW-Eau Claire from 1999 to 2005, according to his bio.

O'Halloran says her staff is going through Hoffner's employment records and talking with staff who worked with him as a precautionary measure.

"We'll start with coaching staff and other staff who interacted with him when he worked here," she said.

Hoffner is accused of having three pornographic videos of children under the age of ten on his Mankato university-provided cell phone.

Prosecutors allege the children, who are related to Hoffner, are seen naked in two of the videos which were discovered after he turned his phone over to the university's IT department this month to get it fixed.

Hoffner's attorney tells KARE 11 the videos are harmless and are no way graphic or exploitive.

And while O'Halloran suspects her team won't find anything, the nature of the allegations in Mankato compels them to check anyway.

"I hope and anticipate that we won't, but that doesn't mean we're not going to look," she said.
