DULUTH, Minn. - U.S. Steel Corp. says it has reached a tentative agreement with the United Steelworkers of America on a three-year labor contract.
The tentative deal announced Sunday would cover 16,000 employees nationwide. That includes 1,620 workers at U.S. Steel's mines in Minnesota's Iron Range.
A Duluth News Tribune report says the union still has to ratify the agreement. Terms of the agreement weren't immediately available.
John P. Surma is the CEO of the Pittsburgh-based company. He says he's pleased with the tentative agreement, and says it's in the best interest of the company, workers and shareholders. A message left with a United Steelworkers spokesman was not immediately returned.
Contract agreements still haven't been reached between the Steelworkers and two other companies - ArcelorMittal and Cliffs Natural Resources.
