ST. CLOUD, Minn. - A 17-year-old St. Cloud teenager is in custody in connection to the death of a Greenfield man who died after being assaulted in an alley while visiting friends.

Police confirm Colton Gleason passed away Friday after an assault in St. Cloud Thursday night.

St. Cloud police asked the public to help provide information about the incident that took place in an alley in the 600 block between 8th and 9th avenues south. They credited the public for a tip that led to the arrest.

They said the investigation is ongoing, but this weekend investigators said Colton was walking with friends when a white sedan, occupied by several individuals, stopped near them. They believe one person got out of the vehicle and punched Colton.

The Mankato State student passed away from his injuries at a St. Cloud hospital.

Colton, a 2010 graduate of Orono High School, was the captain of the soccer team and according to his family an avid water-skier, mountain biker, and angler. He was studying business at Mankato.
