MINNEAPOLIS - The man convicted of badly injuring a military veteran by throwing a metal vise through his windshield offered an apology before being sentenced to more than six years in prison.
A Hennepin County judge handed down the 75-month sentence for Gerret Parks Tuesday morning.
Parks had previously pled guilty to 1st degree assault in the incident that maimed Minnesota National Guard Sgt. First Class Jonathan Stacke. Stacke, a veteran of the Iraq war, suffered severe injuries to his face, jaw and teeth when a heavy metal vise thrown by Parks crashed through his windshield as he drove down Normandale Boulevard.
That incident was one in a handful that Parks was responsible for last December, January and February.
Parks told the court "I do take full responsibly. I was in a deep depression and I was drinking heavily. I kept waiting for someone to save me when I should have saved myself... I'm sorry."
