RED WING, Minn. - Minnesota corrections officials say two teens who had gone missing from the Red Wing juvenile prison are back in custody.
Department of Corrections spokesman John Schadl says the two were apprehended by Goodhue County Sheriff Deputies outside of Red Wing this morning following a tip by a citizen.
Schadl says the two were discovered missing last night around 8:20 p.m. during a head check. Investigators subsequently learned that the teens has climbed over a fence at the facility.
The two inmates are a 16 year old male who is serving a sentence for assault and a 17 year old male that is serving a sentence for burglary.
Officials stress that Red Wing is a minimum security facility and that inmates are assigned there because they are rated as a very low risk to the community.
