TEMPE, Ariz. - The Vikings need a break after a tough loss in the nation's capitol Sunday, and they may have received one Tuesday.
ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback Kevin Kolb has badly bruised ribs and will miss several weeks of action.
That means the Vikings will face backup John Skelton when they face the Cards this Sunday at the Metrodome.
Kolb injured his ribs while being sacked for the fifth time in Sunday's wild 19-16 overtime loss to Buffalo. Coach Ken Whisenhunt says X-rays were negative for anything broken but an MRI was planned to make sure.
Skelton, active for the first time since spraining his left ankle in the season opener, relieved Kolb and threw a key pass to Larry Fitzgerald to set up the ill-fated 38-yard field goal try that would have won the game for Arizona as regulation ended.
