MINNEAPOLIS - The desks at schools across the state are sitting empty as students enjoy the Education Minnesota break.
Known to nearly everybody in the state as MEA weekend, families have always kind of taken advantage of the two days off from school and this year is no exception.
"We kind of plan it over MEA for less homework for Wyatt," said a parent waiting to get through the TSA line at MSP airport.
She's far from the only one traveling this week. An MSP airport spokesperson said this week is just as busy as Christmas or Thanksgiving.
Extra TSA workers are staffed as 700,000 people are expected to go through the gate at MSP.
Everybody from college-bound high school seniors to families headed out for fun and sun.
"We are doing a week trip with our neighbors to Florida," said one passenger.
Still, for all of those heading out of town there will be plenty of kids staying in for them and there's plenty to do.
For example, families can take in a day at one of the state's corn mazes or apple orchards. Weekend packages at area resorts are still available as well. Chase on the Lake in Walker said it still has discounted rooms available.
Another option, a Thursday night with the kids at the Walker Art Center, which is always free thanks to a Target sponsorship.
Finally, there will be thousands of kids downtown on Saturday night when Justin Bieber takes the stage at Target Center.
The show is sold out, but brokers are offering the tickets at airline prices, some asking as much as $500 a seat.
