MINNEAPOLIS - The Sigma Chi Fraternity at the University of Minnesota is facing trouble after hosting a big party.
More than 100 people attended the September 15th gathering at Sigma Chi. Two days after the party the fraternity reported an alleged assault to the University's Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. University officials found out about a second alleged assault that happened the same night through a police report, according to Matt Levine, director of the Office for Fraternity and Sorority Life.
The fraternity is now on probation until Spring of 2013, which will cost them.
"They've lost their organization benefits here on campus and we have also mandated some educational mandates with them as well through the spring semester," Levine said.
Losing its organizational benefits means the fraternity can't reserve space on campus and members will not be able to participate in events like Spring Jam. The fraternity has also agreed to intervention education.
KARE 11 reached the fraternity's president by phone three times Tuesday but he hung up before offering any comment.
