Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Fred Chatmon scored 20 points to lift the
UMKC Kangaroos to a 79-65 victory over the IUPUI Jaguars in their Summit
League season opener at the Swinney Rec Center.
Chatmon also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots for UMKC (3-3,
1-0 Summit). Nate Rogers chipped in 13 points while Kirk Korver added 10 on 4-
of-6 shooting from the floor. Thomas Staton contributed 11 points off the
bench.
P.J. Hubert shot the ball very well for IUPUI (3-5, 0-1), scoring 18 points
while connecting on 4-of-5 shots from three-point range. Donovan Gibbs shot 75
percent from the floor to tally 14 points. Mitchell Patton and John Hart
netted 10 points each.
UMKC took its first lead of the game on a Korver layup five minutes into the
contest and never looked back. The hosts extended the lead to 20 late in the
half before entering the locker room with a 45-26 advantage. The Kangaroos
controlled the glass in the first half, outrebounding IUPUI 25-13.
The Jaguars were never able to cut the lead under double digits as UMKC
converted 63.6 percent of its field goal attempts to cruise to an easy win.
UMKC outscored IUPUI in the paint, 42-18.
