Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Derrick Colter led the way with 25 points as
the Duquesne Dukes defeated the Western Michigan Broncos, 71-66, in a non-
conference matchup at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
For the Dukes (7-5), Sean Johnson added 18 points and Jeremiah Jones finished
with 11 points. Andre Marhold got into the mix as well with nine points, eight
rebounds, and four blocks.
Shane Whittington posted a double-double for the Broncos (7-4) with 20 points
and 10 rebounds. The rest of the WMU starting five shot just 7-of-34 from the
field in the team's third loss in the four outings.
Duquesne shot 43.8 percent from the field, including 6-of-19 from beyond the
three-point arc, as it took a 36-32 lead into halftime. Western Michigan
connected on a nearly identical 43.3 percent of its field goals in the first
After intermission, the Dukes shot just 39.3 percent, but improved to a 6-
of-13 mark from three-point range. The Broncos struggled, making only 28.6
percent of their field goal attempts and missing all but two of their 12
three-point attempts after halftime. After trailing by as many a 13 points in
the second half, the Broncos were able to cut their deficit to just three at
54-51 with under nine minutes to play, but they would get no closer and the
Dukes held on for the victory.
Duquesne outscored Western Michigan 36-15 from the three-point line. The Dukes
converted 9-of-19 at the free-throw line in the game.
