Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Five Wildcats scored in double figures as
Weber State prevailed over the Portland State Vikings, 73-69 in overtime, in
Big Sky Conference action at the Stott Center.
Jordan Richardson and Gelaun Wheelwright each had 14 points for Weber State
(6-3, 2-0 Big Sky), which has won five of its last six games. Scott Bamforth
added 13 points, while Davion Berry and Kyle Tresnak put up 12 points apiece.
Berry added seven assists in the triumph.
For Portland State (3-6, 1-1), Aaron Moore tallied a double-double with 19
points and 10 rebounds, Renado Parker had 18 points, and Lateef McMullan
tallied 10 points and seven assists.
Weber State led by as many as seven early in the first half, but Portland
State finished the frame 11-of-26 from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul
line to go into halftime up 31-27.
In a back-and-forth second quarter, a Parker jumper for the Vikings tied the
game up a 63-63 with 1:55 left to play in regulation, but both teams went
scoreless down the stretch and the game went to overtime.
After the teams exchanged buckets to start the extra session, Bamforth drilled
a 3-pointer at the 3:59 mark of overtime to give Weber State a 68-65 lead, and
it would not surrender that advantage the rest of the way.
The Wildcats made 9-of-19 from beyond the arc, and while the Vikings were
perfect from 3-point land, they only attempt two long-range shots.
