Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - Aaron White scored a game-high 17 points as
the Iowa Hawkeyes dismissed the Northwestern Wildcats, 70-50, in Big Ten
Conference action at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
White, who shot 7-of-9 from the floor, added six rebounds and four assists for
the Hawkeyes (12-5, 1-3 Big Ten) as they snapped a three-game slide. Josh
Oglesby knocked down 4-of-9 shots from 3-point range as he finished with 14
points, followed by Melsahn Basabe with 11 for the visitors.
The Wildcats (10-7, 1-3) were paced by Dave Sobolewski and Tre Demps with 14
and 10 points, respectively, as they suffered a third loss in their last four
Sobolewski and Demps combined to shoot 7-of-22 from the floor, but the rest of
the Northwestern roster was a mere 8-of-29.
A slow game to start, the first points were scored by Iowa well over two
minutes in, and it wasn't until the 16:18 mark that the Wildcats were finally
able to get on the board. The first three baskets by the Hawkeyes came on
dunks as they attacked the rim, and with a 16-5 run to close out the half, it
was Iowa that posted a 25-15 advantage at the break.
For most of the second half the Hawkeyes maintained their double-digit lead,
at one point stretching it to 27 points (68-41) as the they knocked down 54.3
percent of their attempts from the floor in the frame.
Northwestern, which shot only 20.8 percent from the field in the first half,
finished at 29.4 percent for the game. The hosts also converted just 5-of-26
shots from 3-point range and went 15-of-25 at the charity stripe.
