Amherst, MA (Sports Network) - Chaz Williams scored 22 points and handed out
nine assists as the Massachusetts Minutemen registered a 79-66 win over the
Duquesne Dukes in an Atlantic 10 battle at the Mullins Center.

four steals for UMass (12-4, 2-1 A-10) as the team won for the ninth time in
10 tries. Terrell Vinson responded with 17 points and five dishes, followed by
Freddie Riley and Cady Lalanne with 12 points apiece, the latter also clearing
a team-high 11 rebounds off the bench.
The Dukes (7-10, 0-3) were paced by Sean Johnson who recorded a game-high 29
points, while Derrick Colter tacked on 14 and six assists as the team lost for
the fifth time in as many outings.
Duquesne led by three points early in the contest, but that was before the
Minutemen connected on 7-of-16 beyond the arc over the first 20 minutes of
action in order to claim a 44-30 edge at the break.
In the second half UMass struggled a bit on the perimeter (2-of-8) and at the
free-throw line (3-of-9), but it had already established a comfortable lead
that the squad was able to carry through to the end.
Reserves for the visitors finished just 3-of-18 from the floor and accounted
for five of the unit's 15 turnovers on the night.
