Chattanooga, TN (Sports Network) - Ronrico White sank two free throws with six
seconds remaining in overtime to lead the Chattanooga Mocs to a 91-88 victory
over the Appalachian State Mountaineers at McKenzie Arena.
Z. Mason led the Mocs (8-10, 3-2 SoCon) with 23 points and 11 rebounds while
Dontay Hampton netted 22 points, shooting 5-of-8 from behind the arc off
the bench. White finished with 17 points, six boards and four assists and
Drazen Zlovaric scored 10 points.
Nathan Healy registered a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead
ASU (7-9, 3-2) while Tab Hamilton went for 21 points as the Mountaineers'
five-game winning streak came to an end. Jay Canty stuffed the stat sheet with
19 points, six boards and five assists while Tevin Baskin added 11 points,
seven board and three blocked shots off the bench.
Appalachian State finished the first half on a 9-1 run and led 38-30 after the
score was tied with just over four minutes remaining in the frame. Hamilton
erupted for 14 points in the opening period while the Chattanooga bench kept
the Mocs in it with 13 points.
Chattanooga trailed 60-42 with 8:48 remaining before ending regulation on a
36-18 run. Trailing by three with 18 seconds left, Hampton hit the game-
tying 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.
Chattanooga took their first lead of the extra session on another 3-pointer
from Hampton with 3:28 remaining. White stepped up and hit four free throws
after that to put the Mocs up by three before Healy's 3-point attempt at the
buzzer missed the mark.
The Mocs have now won three of their last four games overall, however ASU
still owns the all-time series lead, 42-31.
