Ruston, LA (Sports Network) - Jaron Johnson scored 15 points as the Louisiana
Tech Bulldogs defeated the Seattle Redhawks, 78-71, in Western Athletic
Conference action at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Johnson came off the bench and was only two rebounds shy of a double-double
for the Bulldogs (16-3, 7-0 WAC), who extended their winning streak to eight
with the decision. Alex Hamilton also came off the bench to provide 15 points
and Kenyon McNeail added 12 points.
For the Redhawks (6-11, 1-6), Clarence Trent scored a game-high 19 points,
grabbed six rebounds, and dished out four assists. D'Vonne Pickett Jr. scored
11 points but no other Seattle player reached double-figures as it lost for
the sixth time in seven games.
Seattle started out the half on a 7-0 run and shot 43.8 percent from the field
in the first stanza en route to a slight, 35-33 advantage at the break. The
Bulldogs trailed by only two points despite hitting just 33.3 percent of their
attempts from the floor in the opening period.
Louisiana Tech received 30 points from its bench after the intermission which
helped it jump out to an eight-point lead. Seattle rallied back as Jarell
Flora sank a 3-pointer with 1:21 remaining to cut the Bulldogs' lead down to
two points at 70-68. The hosts drained six free throws to close out the
contest and remain perfect in conference play.
Louisiana Tech forced 24 turnovers and made 30-of-40 free-throws on the night.
