Mobile, AL (Sports Network) - Augustine Rubit recorded his 10th double-double
of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds as the South Alabama Jaguars held
on the beat the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, 65-57, in Sun Belt Conference
action at the Mitchell Center.
Rubit shot 7-of-12 from the field and added four blocks for South Alabama
(10-8, 7-3 Sun Belt), which has won three of four. Antoine Allen also scored
19 points, and Mychal Ammons chipped in 10 points and seven boards.
For WKU (11-10, 5-5), Brandon Harris led the way with 14 points and seven
rebounds. T.J. Price (13 points) and George Fant (10 points) also scored in
double figures for the Hilltoppers, who have lost five of six.
South Alabama shot just 42.9 percent from the floor in the first half, but it
made 8-of-14 from the foul line as it took a 28-23 lead into intermission. WKU
shot only 37 percent from the field and 1-of-3 from the stripe.
The Jaguars' poor showing from the field continued after the break (.385), but
they continued to march to the free-throw line (14-of-18), as they held on for
the eight-point win.
South Alabama won the rebounding battle, 40-32, although it was outscored in
the paint by a 24-10 margin.
