New York, NY (Sports Network) - Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving and
San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker have been named the Eastern and Western
Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played between Jan.
21-27.
Irving guided the Cavs to a perfect 3-0 mark and lead the league in scoring at
35.7 points per game. He netted 40 points against the Boston Celtics on Jan.
22 and hit a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer in a 99-98 win over the
Toronto Raptors on Jan. 26.
Parker averaged 24.5 points and 9.5 assists per contest for the Spurs, who
went 4-0 during the week. He tallied back-to-back double-doubles against the
New Orleans Hornets and Dallas Mavericks on Jan. 23 and 25.
Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were
the Atlanta Hawks' Kyle Korver and Josh Smith, the Denver Nuggets' Ty Lawson,
the Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin, the Miami Heat's LeBron James, the
Milwaukee Bucks' Ersan Ilyasova, the New Orleans Hornets' Ryan Anderson, the
Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant and the Portland Trail Blazers' Nicolas
Batum.
