Carbondale, IL (Sports Network) - Chris Hines scored 12 points for the Drake
Bulldogs who defeated the Southern Illinois Salukis, 61-56, in a Missouri
Valley Conference clash at the SIU Arena.
Hines knocked down four 3-pointers for the Bulldogs (10-11, 4-6 MVC), who have
won four of their last five games after starting off 0-4 in conference play.
Jordan Clarke added 11 points and six rebounds while Joey King managed 10
points off the bench before fouling out late in the second half.
Desmar Jackson just missed a double-double as he led all scorers with 15
points to go with nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals for SIU (8-13,
1-9), which has lost five consecutive games. T.J. Lindsay contributed 11
points while Josh Swan tallied 10.
In the first half, Drake shot 52.0 percent from the field while holding the
Salukis to just 32.0 percent shooting. After a 14-1 run towards the end of the
half, the Bulldogs led 34-28 at the break.
Although SIU was just 1-of-12 from beyond the arc in the second half, the
Salukis outscored the Bulldogs 28-27.
Both squads made 19 field goals in the game but it took Southern Illinois 52
attempts while the Bulldogs did it on 38 tries.
