Omaha, NE (Sports Network) - Corey Petros poured in a career-high 28 points to
lead the Oakland Golden Grizzlies to a 96-81 victory over the Nebraska Omaha
Mavericks in a Summit League bout at Ralston Arena.
Petros went 12-of-15 from the floor in 36 minutes of action for Oakland
(11-13, 6-4 Summit) as it picked up its third win in a row. Travis Bader set a
new career-best with 13 makes from the charity stripe en route to 24 points.
Duke Mondy filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, eight rebounds, and five
assists while Drew Valentine registered a double-double of 14 points and 16
rebounds.
Omaha (8-17, 5-5) fell by a double-digit margin despite a 25-point outing by
Justin Simmons. C.J. Carter tallied 21 points, six boards, and five assists
and John Karhoff added 14 points. The loss snapped the Mavericks' three-game
winning streak.
The Mavericks shot 58.1 percent from the field and converted all seven of
their free throw attempts in the first half to take a 47-43 lead into
halftime. Oakland went into the break trailing after going 2-of-13 from 3-
point range in the opening 20 minutes of action.
The Golden Grizzlies outscored the hosts, 15-4, in second chance points and
converted 18-of-30 attempts from the field after the break to overcome the
halftime deficit and coast to the 15-point decision. Omaha cooled off to go 2-
of-11 from distance in the second stanza.
Oakland held a 44-34 advantage in points in the paint while its bench
outscored the Mavericks' reserves, 19-4.
