Albany, NY (Sports Network) - Derek Needham scored a game-high 18 points as
the Fairfield Stags registered a 64-54 win over the Siena Saints in Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Times Union Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Stags (14-10, 6-6 MAAC) were Maurice
Barrow and Amadou Sidibe with 11 and 10 points, respectively, as they picked
up their fourth straight win.
The Saints (6-17, 4-8) were paced by O.D. Anosike with 15 points, eight
rebounds and four assists, but still the squad had a two-game win streak come
to an end. Trenity Burdine contributed 10 points and seven rebounds as well.
Siena led by as many as five points in the first half, but the team shot just
1-of-7 behind the 3-point line over the first 20 minutes of action, leaving
the hosts with a 27-25 deficit at the break. Fairfield shot only 35.3 percent
in the opening frame, 3-of-13 beyond the arc and failed to make a single trip
to the free-throw line.
In the second half the Saints connected on a mere 33.3 percent from the field,
allowing the Stags to pull away and claim the double-digit win.
In a game that featured 10 ties and 13 lead changes, Fairfield survived
despite shooting only 5-of-23 out on the perimeter.
