Valparaiso, IN (Sports Network) - Ryan Broekhoff scored 22 points and Bobby
Capobianco just missed a triple-double as the Valparaiso Crusaders dismissed
the Illinois-Chicago Flames, 86-61, in a Horizon League clash at the
Athletics-Recreation Center.
Broekhoff shot 6-of-9 from 3-point range and also added six rebounds and two
blocks for Valparaiso (18-6, 8-2 Horizon), which has won back-to-back games
and eight of its last nine. Capobianco tallied 10 points, nine assists, and
nine boards, LaVonte Dority had 13 points, and Erik Buggs chipped in 10 points
for the hosts.
Josh Crittle and Daniel Barnes netted 12 points apiece for UIC (14-10, 5-6),
which has lost two straight on the heels of a three-game winning streak.
Valparaiso shot a lofty 65.2 percent from the field in the first half,
including 8-of-13 from 3-point range, to open up a 44-27 advantage at the
break.
The Crusaders continued their hot shooting after intermission (.556) and their
lead was never in doubt. Valpo finished the game 15-of-26 from long range.
UIC shot just 36.4 percent from the field on the night, which included a 2-
of-14 showing from beyond the arc.
