Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Dylan Garrity scored 15 points and dealt out
six assists to pace the Hornets as Sacramento State downed the Eastern
Washington Eagles, 61-55, in Big Sky Conference action at The Nest.
John Dickson chipped in 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor for
Sacramento State (11-10, 6-7 Big Sky), which snapped its brief two-game losing
slide with the win. Joe Eberhard chipped in 11 points and blocked two shots
for Sacramento State.
Collin Chiverton led Eastern Washington (6-17, 4-9) with 12 points on 5-of-6
shooting despite playing only 21 minutes off the bench. Kevin Winford tallied
11 points and five assists while Martin Seiferth grabbed nine rebounds for the
Eagles in their second loss in a row.
The Hornets never trailed in the first half as they built their advantage on
the scoreboard to as great as eight points before taking a narrow, 29-27 lead
into halftime. Eastern Washington trailed at the intermission despite hitting
on 44.0 percent of its field goal attempts while limiting the hosts to 38.5
percent shooting from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of action.
The visitors used a 12-3 run midway through the second half to go in front for
the first time and grab a 48-44 lead, but Sacramento State scored the next 10
points to go back on top for good. The Hornets outscored the Eagles, 13-1, at
the free throw line after the break to collect the six-point decision.
Sacramento State managed to produce nine fastbreak points and the same total
on second chances, while the Eagles failed to generate any points on fast
breaks and just two off of offensive rebounds.
