Newark, DE (Sports Network) - Devon Saddler poured in 24 points as the
Delaware Blue Hens overcame a double-digit second-half deficit to take down
the Old Dominion Monarchs, 75-73, in Colonial Athletic Association action at
the Bob Carpenter Center.
It was Saddler's fourth straight game with 20 or more points and his 11th of
the season for Delaware (13-12, 8-4 CAA), which has won five of six. Kyle
Anderson scored 12 points, Josh Brinkley added 10 points, and Jarvis Threatt
tallied 10 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists for the hosts.
For ODU (3-22, 1-12), DeShawn Painter recorded his eighth double-double of the
season with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Donte Hill and Dimitri Batten each put
up 15 points, while Aaron Bacote had 10 points for the Monarchs, who fell to
1-2 under interim head coach Jim Corrigan after beating Drexel on Feb. 7
(78-66) and losing to Northeastern in overtime on Feb. 9 (79-74).
Delaware shot 48.3 percent from the field in the first half compared to just
37.1 percent for ODU, but the Blue Hens took just a one-point lead into
intermission, 34-33. The Monarchs earned extra possessions in the opening
frame by grabbing eight offensive rebounds and forcing eight Delaware
turnovers.
ODU got hot to start the second half and took a 52-42 lead with 11:27 to play
on a pair of Batten free throws. Delaware battled back to take a 67-66
advantage with under three minutes left on a Saddler layup, which proved to be
the game-winner as the Blue Hens held on down the stretch.
Delaware finished the night shooting 47.5 percent from the field.
