Chestnut Hill, MA (Sports Network) - Patrick Heckmann scored a team-high 14
points to help the Boston College Eagles fend off the Wake Forest Demon
Deacons for a 66-63 victory in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup at Conte
Forum.
Joe Rahon and Ryan Anderson added 12 points apiece for Boston College (11-13,
3-8 ACC), which also received 10 points from Lonnie Jackson. Rahon contributed
nine rebounds and four assists for the Eagles as they ended their two-game
losing slide.
C.J. Harris poured in a game-high total of 23 points for Wake Forest (11-13,
4-8), which was coming off of a 25-point win over Florida State. Travis McKie
tallied 11 points while Devin Thomas pulled down nine rebounds in the setback.
After the hosts held an early 11-point lead, Wake Forest took a narrow 37-36
edge into the intermission by shooting 57.7 percent from the field and holding
a 15-12 edge in rebounds. The Eagles stayed close by knocking down 6-of-12
attempts from beyond arc in the first period.
The Demon Deacons connected on 42.9 percent of their shots from the field
after halftime, but they also went just 1-of-7 from 3-point range during the
stanza. Boston College battled back and picked up its third ACC win of the
season by converting all 12 of its free-throw attempts in the final 20
minutes.
Wake Forest had possession trailing by just one point with seconds remaining,
but Harris committed a costly turnover which sent Jackson to the charity
stripe, where he extended the Eagles' lead just before time expired.
The Demon Deacons held a 27-24 edge in the rebounding battle, but it was not
enough to overcome their 17 turnovers.
