Champaign, IL (Sports Network) - D.J. Richardson scored 18 points as the
Illinois Fighting Illini routed the Purdue Boilermakers, 79-59, in a Big Ten
Conference collision at Assembly Hall.
Tracy Adams added 13 points and seven assists, Tyler Griffey had 12 points
off the bench and Joseph Bertrand nearly recorded a double-double with nine
points and 12 rebounds for Illinois (18-8, 5-7 Big Ten) which has won three
straight games.
Terone Johnson put in 18 points and D.J. Byrd and A.J. Hammons added 10
points apiece for Purdue (12-13, 5-7) which has lost four of its last five
outings.
At halftime Illinois led 43-29 after shooting 47.2 percent in the first
half, including a 5-of-14 showing from 3-point range. Purdue shot just 41.7
percent and had a pair of triples during the first period.
Though the Illini slowed to 37.5 percent shooting after halftime they held
the Boilermakers to just 35.5 percent shooting while knocking down 10-of-12
from the free-throw line to secure the victory.
Illinois forced 17 turnovers and doubled up Purdue on points off takeaways,
24-12.
