Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Vertrail Vaughns scored 14 points, leading
four players in double figures, as the George Mason Patriots logged a 68-62
win over the Drexel Dragons in Colonial Athletic Association action at the
Erik Copes added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Patriots (15-10, 8-5
CAA), followed by Sherrod Wright and Corey Edwards with 11 and 10 points,
respectively, as they won for the third time in the last four outings.
Damion Lee and Derrick Thomas both delivered 16 points for the Dragons (10-15,
6-7), while Frantz Massenat chipped in 13 points but shot just 4-of-16 from
the floor. Daryl McCoy cleared 12 rebounds in the setback.
Drexel led by as many as eight points in the first half and even as the team
shot just 34.5 percent from the floor in the frame, it was able to cling to a
26-22 advantage at the break.
In the second half George Mason elevated its play by connecting on 52.0
percent from the field and an impressive 17-of-20 at the free-throw line, many
of those conversions at the stripe coming in the final moments to push the
visitors out ahead.
The Patriots outscored the hosts by a 19-11 margin at the charity stripe, with
Drexel failing to get to the line even once in the first half.
