Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Derrick Colter scored 17 points, including
a pair of key free throws with two seconds remaining, to lead the Duquesne
Dukes over the Temple Owls, 84-83, in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup at the
Liacouras Center.
Quevyn Winters led the Dukes (8-16, 1-9 A-10) with 22 points, Andre Marhold
posted a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Sean Johnson
chipped in with 10 points as the Dukes snapped an 11-game losing streak and
grabbed their first conference win of the season.
For the Owls (16-8, 5-5), Khalif Wyatt finished with a game-high 35 points,
while Scootie Randall added 15 points and Dalton Pepper contributed 13.
Duquesne was red-hot from the field to start the contest, hitting on 63
percent of its field goal tries, including 7-of-14 from beyond the 3-point
arc, as it went into halftime leading 43-37.
After the break the Owls struggled from the floor, making just 34.3 percent
of their shots, including 4-of-15 from 3-point distance. The Dukes were
slightly better from the field, shooting just 35.7 percent. An 11-0 run early
in the half moved the Owls to an eight-point lead, but the Dukes battled back
and regained the lead by as many as seven with just over one minute to play.
A late rally by Temple saw the Owls go up 83-82 with seven seconds left.
Pepper fouled Colter in the final moments, setting the stage for his game-
winning free throws.
The Dukes had the advantage on points in the paint, 28-18. The Owls scored 27
points off of 18 Duke turnovers.
