Poughkeepsie, NY (Sports Network) - Juan'ya Green nailed a 3-pointer with two
seconds remaining as the Niagara Purple Eagles earned a hard fought victory
over the Marist Red Foxes, 57-54, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
thriller at McCann Arena
Green scored a game-high 20 points, Marvin Jordan chipped in 10 points and
Tahjere McCall brought in nine rebounds for Niagara (15-11, 11-4 MAAC) which
put an end to a three-game losing streak.
Adam Kemp scored 17 points and blocked four shots while Chavaughn Lewis and
Jay Bowie each added 10 points for Marist (7-19, 4-11) which had won two
straight entering play.
Both teams struggled from the field in the first half. Niagara went 10-of-34
from the floor while Marist hit just 8-of-25 field goal attempts. The Purple
Eagles led 24-22 at the break.
In the second half Niagara shot 48 percent from the floor while Marist had
just seven field goals. However the Red Foxes had a 17-4 edge in points from
the free-throw line to keep the game tight. Lewis had a chance to put Marist
ahead with 34 seconds left when he stepped to the free-throw line, but he went
1-of-2 from the stripe to tie the game at 54-54. The Purple Eagles took over
from there and after letting most of the shot clock expire, Green stepped up
to nail the game-winner.
The Purples Eagles lost despite having 19 turnovers to just five assists.
Marist also had 19 turnovers while assisting on 10 field goals. Niagara had a
40-32 edge in rebounds.
