New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Ricky Tarrant tallied 25 points and six
assists as the Tulane Green Wave dismissed the SMU Mustangs, 78-67, in a
Conference USA bout at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Tarrant shot 7-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range for
Tulane (17-9, 5-6 C-USA), which has won three of four. Jordan Callahan was
also stellar from beyond the arc (6-of-12) on his way to 20 points, while Josh
Davis chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds.
For SMU (13-13, 3-8), Shawn Williams netted 16 points and Nick Russell
recorded 13 points and four assists. Ryan Manuel and Jalen Jones both scored
12 points, while Cannen Cunningham had 10 points, six boards and five assists.
Although all five starters scored in double-digits for the Mustangs, they
received just four points from their bench.
SMU outshot Tulane from the field in the first half, 50 percent to 34.5
percent, but the Green Wave was still able to take a 33-29 lead into
intermission by draining five 3-pointers, while the Mustangs went without a
long-range bucket in the opening 20 minutes.
The Mustangs took a brief one-point lead, 38-37, at the 16:04 mark of the
second half following a Williams 3-pointer, but Tulane regained the advantage
on its next possession on a Davis layup. The Green Wave would never again
relinquish their advantage.
Tulane converted 20 SMU turnovers into 26 points.
