Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - Jerrelle Benimon finished with 17 points to
lead the Towson Tigers to a 57-50 victory over the Hofstra Pride in a
Colonial Athletic Association matchup at the Mack Sports Complex.
For the Tigers (15-13, 10-5 CAA), Marcus Damas added 11 points, as they
snapped a seven-game losing streak to Hofstra.
Stevie Mejia led the Pride (6-20, 3-10) with 13 points and seven steals, while
Moussa Kone chipped in with 11 points. Hofstra has lost nine of its last 10
games.
Both squads struggled from the field in the first half, each shooting under
40 percent. Towson took a modest 21-19 lead at the break.
After halftime, the Tigers found their stroke, connecting on 66.7 percent from
the field. Although the Pride improved to 42.9 percent shooting, it was not
enough to overcome the Tigers down the stretch. After Hofstra led by as many
as six early in the half Towson answered with a 17-3 run midway through the
period to take the lead for good.
Towson dominated the glass, outrebounding Hofstra, 41-25.
