San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Chris Udofia and Chase Hallam both tallied 13
points as the Denver Pioneers posted a convincing 62-41 win over the San Jose
State Spartans in Western Athletic Conference action at The Event Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Pioneers (17-8, 13-2 WAC) was Royce
O'Neale who dropped in 11 points and pulled down six rebounds for the visitors
as they logged their sixth straight win and the 13th in the last 14 outings.
The Spartans (9-16, 3-11) failed to have a single player score in double
figures, with LaVanne Pennington coming up with eight points off the bench as
the team suffered a 10th consecutive defeat. Chris Cunningham was responsible
for seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
SJSU made a grand total of three field goals (3-of-17) in the first half,
compared to the Pioneers who connected on 11-of-22 as the visitors grabbed a
28-14 lead at the break.
The Spartans showed some signs of life in the second half with 41.7 percent
accuracy from the floor, but at the same time the Pioneers connected on 56.5
percent in order to pull away for the easy victory.
SJSU finished with more turnovers (18) than field goals (13) in the contest
and made just 12-of-22 at the free-throw line as well.
In the first meeting of the season between these teams last month, SJSU was
held to a mere 37 points in a 36-point loss at Magness Arena in Denver.
