San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Jamaal Franklin scored 20 points and pulled
down seven rebounds as the San Diego State Aztecs crushed the visiting Wyoming
Cowboys, 79-51, in a Mountain West Conference battle at Viejas Arena.
Also having an impact for the Aztecs (19-7, 7-5 MWC) was Dwayne Polee II who
made good on 6-of-8 shots from the floor as he finished with 16 points and
five rebounds in just 18 minutes off the bench as the team snapped a two-game
slide. Winston Shepard added 12 points and JJ O'Brien 10 for the hosts.
The Cowboys (18-8, 4-8) were paced by Derrious Gilmore who tallied 15 points,
while Matt Sellers contributed 10 in only nine minutes in a reserve role.
SDSU trailed by a point at 7-6, but then put on a 15-0 scoring run to assume
control. The Aztecs ended up shooting a staggering 68.2 percent from the floor
in the first half, en route to a 37-13 advantage at the break.
In the second half the hosts again shot 68.2 percent from the field as the
Aztecs cruised to the 28-point win.
San Diego State turned the ball over 16 times on the night, but easily made up
for those miscues by holding a 35-16 rebounding advantage and limiting the
visitors to just 4-of-16 beyond the arc.
