Ypsilanti, MI (Sports Network) - Anthony Downing had 16 points to lead the
Missouri State Bears to a 57-54 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a
BracketBuster matchup at the Convocation Center.
Marcus Marshall added 11 points to help the Bears (9-20) earn only their
second victory in 15 tries outside of Springfield, Missouri this season.
Derek Thompson made 4-of-6 3-pointers en route to a game-high 19 points for
the Eagles (12-15), who have dropped four of their last five outings. J.R.
Sims rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.
EMU grabbed its largest lead of the game at the 6:20 mark of the first half,
as Daylen Harrison's 3-pointer gave the Eagles a 26-13 cushion. However, the
Bears answered right back with an 8-0 spurt to cut the deficit to 29-21 at the
break.
MSU still trailed by eight with six minutes remaining in regulation before a
three by Nathan Scheer kick-started a 14-0 run. After shooting just 28.6
percent from the floor in the first half, the Bears shot 52.2 percent in the
second stanza.
The Bears held a 16-6 scoring edge at the foul line for the game despite
making only 53.3 percent of their attempts (16-of-30).
