Davis, CA (Sports Network) - Corey Hawkins exploded for 34 points to lead the
UC Davis Aggies over the Northern Colorado Bears, 79-78, in a BracketBusters
matchup at The Pavilion.
Hawkins was 12-of-19 from the field and knocked down four 3-pointers while
dishing out six assists for the Aggies (12-14) who have won three of their
last four games. J.T. Adenrele added 18 points, nine rebounds, and three
blocks.
The Bears (9-17) were led by Tate Unruh who scored 21 points and made good on
five 3-pointers. Derrick Barden had 17 points and was a rebound shy of a
double-double. Paul Garnica hit on a pair of 3-pointers while scoring 12
points and earning seven assists. Northern Colorado has now lost two in a row
after a three-game win streak.
Northern Colorado knocked down six shots from beyond the arc in the first half
and led 39-34 at intermission.
In the second half the Aggies shot 64.0 percent from the field and outscored
the Bears 45-39. UC Davis carried the lead for close to the last seven minutes
of the game but with 16 seconds left, Garnica hit a 3-pointer to put the Bears
up 78-77. With two seconds left on the clock, Hawkins passed the ball to Paolo
Mancasola who hit the game-winning jumper for the Aggies.
Second half free-throw shooting is what won the game for the Aggies as they
hit on 10-of-11 attempts.
