Amherst, MA (Sports Network) - Led by 17 points each by Rotnei Clarke and
Kameron Woods, the Butler Bulldogs took down the Massachusetts Minutemen,
73-62, in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup at the Mullins Center.
For the Bulldogs (23-7, 10-5 A-10), Khyle Marshall added 14 points and Andrew
Smith posted a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Terrell Vinson finished with 17 points to pace the Minutemen (18-10, 8-7),
while Sampson Carter chipped in with 12 points.
Butler shot 44.8 percent from the field, as it took a 30-22 lead at
halftime. The Bulldogs did struggle from the perimeter, missing all 11 of
their shots from 3-point range. UMass hit on 40.9 percent of its field goal
tries and 2-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc.
After the break, both squads connected on 50 percent of their shots from the
field. The Bulldogs hit on 3-of-8 from beyond the 3-point arc while the
Minutemen made 2-of-9 from the perimeter. Butler pushed its lead to as many
as 16 and coasted to victory.
Butler dominated on the boards, outrebounding UMass 37-20. The Bulldogs
outscored the Minutemen on second chance points, 17-5
