Hanover, NH (Sports Network) - Gabas Maldunas scored a career-high 28 points
as the Dartmouth Big Green registered a 76-62 win over the Cornell Big Red in
Ivy League action at Leede Arena.
Maldunas, who shot 9-of-14 from the floor, added eight rebounds and four
blocked shots for Dartmouth (8-19, 4-9 Ivy) as the squad won for the second
time in the last three outings. Alex Mitola chipped in with 15 points and
Tyler Melville 13 to go along with five rebounds and five assists for the
hosts.
Cornell (13-17, 5-8) was paced by Errick Peck who dropped in 26 points, adding
seven boards, while Nolan Cressler posted 14 points and seven rebounds as well
for a team that bowed for the fifth straight game.
The Big Red led by a basket early on, but the visitors shot just 37.5 percent
from the floor through the first 20 minutes, as Dartmouth managed to pull
ahead by a single point at the break, 27-26.
In the second half the Big Green took control with 57.7 percent accuracy from
the floor, including 4-of-8 behind the 3-point line after failing on their
only two attempts from long range in the opening frame. Dartmouth also
connected on 15-of-18 at the free-throw line in the period in order to cruise
to the 14-point win.
Dartmouth, which led by as many as 17 in the contest, outscored the visitors
in the paint by a 36-24 margin.
