Garland, TX (Sports Network) - Julian Washburn recorded a game-high 20 points
and eight rebounds as the Texas-El Paso Miners defeated the SMU Mustangs,
74-63, in Conference USA action at the Curtis Culwell Center.
C.J. Cooper scored 13 points for the Miners (17-13, 10-6 C-USA). Cedrick Lang
put up 12 points and McKenzie Moore added 11, as UTEP won for the third time
in its last four games.
For the Mustangs (15-16, 5-11), Cannen Cunningham contributed 15 points and
five rebounds. Ryan Manuel scored 14 points. Nick Russell chipped in 10 points
and five assists for SMU, which has lost two of its last three games.
UTEP knocked down 15-of-25 from the floor in the first half, including 6-of-11
beyond the arc, en route to the 39-25 advantage at the break.
After intermission, both teams made 13 shots from the floor. SMU was held to
1-of-3 from long range, while the Miners knocked down 3-of-8 3-pointers as
they held on.
UTEP won despite shooting just 9-of-19 from the foul line.
